Kevin a girl

Meet Kevin! She's a 4 year old special needs kitty, named after Kevin the Bird from Up! ("Kevin's a girl"). Kevin has epilepsy (cause unknown) and has had it since we found her on the street (around 6 weeks old). She's a cuddly mama's girl who's inquisitive, a little bit ditzy, and oh so lovable!

Personality: She's a 4 year old sweetheart! She's very curious and will get in moods where she wants attention so she'll run up to you and give you some sweet meows for pets! She loves sleeping in the sun and is playful. She does well with other cats. She spooks relatively easily, but her curiosity will have her coming back to investigate almost immediately. She loves sniffing things, loves being held, and her head and neck scratches. She sleeps with me every night and cuddles up with me on the couch either in my lap or at my feet. She's very inquisitive, a little bit ditzy, and oh so lovable!

Her Illness: She has clusters of seizures every 4-8 weeks. When she's in, what I call, the "Seizure Zone" she'll have 1-10 seizures over the course of 1-5 days. At the start of the seizure zone, they'll be full body seizures (looks like falling on the ground and gyrating) and gradually get less intense. Sometimes she will pee, other times she won't and will just foam. Other times she's more lucid and will get spooked easily and run away (it almost looks like there's a visual disturbance that she's running away from or thinks she's being attacked). Aside from the times she's in the Seizure Zone, she's the sweetest kitty.

Treatment: She's on two medications: Levetiracetam (aka Keppra) and Zonisamide, which she gets 2x a day. 3ml Levetiracetam in the morning, 1.5ml in the evening and 2ml Zonisamide morning and evening. She goes in to see her neurologist once a year (she sees Dr. Sammut at VCA West in Los Angeles).

As far as treatment cost, this is what I've spent annually since we've gotten her epilepsy diagnosed and under control, so the last 3 years: 12 months of prescriptions at $287.20 ($3,446.40) $500 annual check up + neurology check up = $3,946.40 annual medical expenses
