Roxie and Meira

ID #724

Roxie and Meira were born into a colony of cats in Costa Mesa. Destined for a hard road at birth, they faced many challenges. Two feeders there, our foster Megan and her friend Lynne, were told by a cat-hating neighbor that if the litter was not gone the kittens would “disappear.” Only two days later, three of the five were gone. Lynne and Megan worked quickly to trap Roxie first, and several days later, Meira.

Both were skittish after four months on the street, but they were not feral—and they’ve proven they can turn around with time and patience. Roxie has taken longer to trust, but once she does, she’s a total mush for love and attention. She’s playful, curious, and completely food-driven—offer her a treat, and she’ll be your best friend.

Meira’s story is more heartbreaking. Once trapped, Megan knew something was seriously wrong. She rushed her to the emergency vet, where it was discovered Meira had blunt force trauma that caused a diaphragmatic hernia—her stomach organs had pushed through her diaphragm into her lung area. We know this was not the result of a car accident. Meira underwent emergency surgery and made a full and complete recovery. Today, she plays like any other kitten, and she’s also more of a lover—she’ll happily curl up next to you on the bed or the couch, purring away as your snuggle buddy.

Roxie and Meira have endured more than most kittens should, but through it all, they have stayed bonded. They play together, sleep together, and comfort each other. Separating them feels like it would only add more sadness to their story, so we believe they will truly thrive in a home where they can be adopted as a pair.
